Granite Monument Design Decision #4 - Monument Colors

There are literally hundreds of granite colors from around the world. Within each color family, there can be different strains based on the size of different mineral deposits in the granite.

Some granite colors make for better monuments due to their contrast between polished and non-polished finishes. For instance, a pearl blue looks almost the same whether it is polished or is steeled. Lettering and any paneling on a blue pearl monument may not show very well due to its low contrast. The colors listed in the table below are typically used in the monument industry due to their beauty, availability, cost, and contrast. All colors shown are the best representation of the polished finish for each granite strain. Slight variations in color or grain size from what is depicted below may be noticible in your monument.

It is important to note that the names of granite colors vary by parts of the country and sometimes even between monument dealers. Be extra vigilant when shopping around that the color you want is the color being quoted.

Barre Grey Canadian Pink Dakota Mahogany
